Mindfulness Based Relapse Prevention
(MBRP) teaches skills for sustaining a successful recovery from drug and alcohol addictions. It works best for
people who have completed a treatment program and/or have at least thirty days of abstinence from alcohol and drugs.
Developed by Dr. Alan Marlatt at the University of Washington, MBRP integrates the best research on addictions with the highly
successful mindfulness approach used in both Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy for
depression relapse prevention.
What to expect. A free orientation
interview is required for anyone interested in the class. Each 2.5 hour session offers relapse prevention education
and first hand experiences in different formal and informal prevention meditation and mindfulness practices. Small class
sizes allow for individual attention and support. You'll receive your own Home Practice Manual and two CD's
to help guide you in creating a daily routine outside of class. Dress in loose-fitting, comfortable clothing.

Mindfulness-Based
Cognitive Therapy - MBCT
Preventing Depression Relapse
An 8-week class & full day retreat
Mindfulness Based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT) is an 8-week
class, developed by psychologists Mark Williams, JohnTeasdale, Zindel Segal in collaboration with Jon Kabat-Zinn. It
is a well established, clinically tested curriculum proven to significantly prevent and/or reduce the frequency of depression
relapse. It works best for people who have undergone treatment for depression and are not currently experiencing a depressive
episode.
MBCT practices heighten awareness of the unconscious ways negative thinking
and behaving can lead to depression relapse. As awareness of these negative patterns increases, it becomes
easier to stop their influence before they take over. With practice, it becomes possible to put
the brakes on automatic reactions that typically lead to depression relapse. MBCT graduates become adept at consciously
side-stepping the downward spiral of automatic reactions, mindfully following the more even path of well-being.
